Race Record

Zac Spirit was A$95,000 purchase out of the 2010 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and was snapped up by trainer Cliff Brown on behalf of the Zac Stable for A$140,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale the following April.
Winner of four of eight appearances during his first year at the races in 2013, he broke through with a trio of stakes scores the following campaign, including wins in the Kranji Sprint and Lion City Cup ahead of a third-place effort to top Hong Kong sprinter Lucky Nine (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G1 KrisFlyer International Sprint en route to his championship.
He successfully defended the Kranji Sprint and was second in the 2015 Lion City Cup, but suffered his first injury in the KrisFlyer last May and missed nearly a year. He returned in remarkable form in two runs this year, finishing second to Emperor Max (Aus) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) in the Kranji Sprint Apr. 3 before turning the tables in the Lion City Cup Apr. 24 (video). Zac Spirit was recently green-lighted for a trip to England for the G1 Darley July Cup July 9, but will now return to Newhaven Park to live out his days.
“He was lame, probably after a gallop, and X-rays confirmed he had chipped his knee again. He just had surgery on it,” said Brown. “We could have pushed on like last time, but after discussing with Andy and Genni Wong, his owners, we decided to retire him instead. He’s been a fantastic horse to us, and he owed us nothing. It’s disappointing but at the same time it isn’t.”
Zac Spirit retires with a record of 22-11-3-6 and earnings of S$1,697,799.
