Golden Slipper Second for Newhaven Park

The Kelly family of Newhaven Park have enjoyed much success in the Golden Slipper and went close to another victory on Saturday with honest filly Frolic charging home for second to She Will Reign in the $3.5 million Group I event.

Winner of the $250,000 Inglis Classic and then the Group II ATC Reisling Stakes, beating She Will Reign, Frolic has done a super job this preparation for Michael Freedman and may have more success ahead.

Her rider Tommy Berry was thrilled with her effort.

“The winner actually took my spot and she took a little while to find her feet after that,” he said.

“She was gallant in defeat and looks like the perfect horse for the Champagne and Sires.”

A $100,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Blue Sky Bloodstock from the Vinery stud draft, Frolic carries the same colours as ill-fated Group I winner Peeping and runs for the Kelly family’s Suffolk Vale partnership managed by Tom Kelly.

By proven Group I sire Husson (Arg), she is the second winner for Group III winning Redoute’s Choice mare Leveller, a grand-daughter of former brilliant Group II winner Startling Lass, a full sister to Group I VATC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Midnight Fever.

Already the winner of $969,600 in prizemoney, Frolic will be an outstanding addition to the broodmare band when her racing days are done.
