First stakes winning 2YO for Cool Aza Beel

Chris & Corey Munce trained Cool Archie became the first black-type winner of Cool Aza Beel’s exciting stud career when scoring a smart win in the Listed Dalrello Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm in Brisbane.

Ridden close to the pace in the early stages, the first crop colt claimed the lead entering the final furlong and held off $2.90 favourite Torque To Be Sure in a stirring finish.

Speaking after the win, Chris Munce stated: “I’ll tell you what, he’s a tough little bugger. He was there at the start and on the corner, and still kicked on strong. Credit to him.”

Munce added: “He was a bit fresh today. I was surprised that he raced that close. I didn’t expect him to be there but I could see in the parade ring that he was a bit above himself, so he can improve again.”

Munce also confirmed that Cool Archie was always going to go on a Group 2 BRC Sires’ (1400m) and Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) path, and would next start in the Group 2 Spirit Of Boom Stakes in two weeks’ time.

Cool Archie was one of three individual winners for Cool Aza Beel in the month of April and was already a stakes placegetter, having finished runner-up to Icarian Dream in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) in December.

Bred, raised and sold by Newhaven Park, Cool Archie was offered at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was purchased by Mick Malone Bloodstock on behalf of (Max) Whitby Bloodstock P/L in whose colours the stakes winning youngster now races.
