June 2, 2025Cool Archie breaks through the $1 million mark
Newhaven Park bred, raised and sold Cool Archie was responsible for one of the finest performances of the current 2-year-old racing season when powering through the mud at Eagle Farm to win the $1 million, Group 2, BRC Sires’ Produce by close on three lengths — and still running away from his opposition on the line!
In a race run under extreme conditions, the outstanding 1st crop son of Newhaven Park resident sire Cool Aza Beel (NZ) extended his winning sequence to four-in-a-row, the past three having been in stakes company including the latest two at Group 2 level.
Trained by Chris and Corey Munce, the brilliant colt took his earnings through the $1 million mark and added the BRC Sires’ Produce (G2) to his previous black-type victories in the Spirit of Boom Stakes (G2) and Dalrello Stakes (LR).
Speaking after the win, Munce Jnr & Snr stated: “What an amazing run. He’s never been that far back, I think, in his career… I just liked the way the horse kept coming, so the mile [of the G1 JJ Atkins] is definitely not going to be an issue.”
Saturday’s success witnessed another very well judged ride by ex-patriate Irish jockey Martin Harley who remarked: “As we knew, he wears his heart on his sleeve. He is improving run to run. He relaxed beautifully and had the will to win.”
Congratulations to owner Max Whitby, and to Mick Malone of North Bloodstock who purchased Cool Archie for $100,000 at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
