Slipper Second for English

Sydney, March 21 – It was a case of a good colt beating a good filly in the $3.5 million Group I ATC Golden Slipper Stakes on Saturday with our homebred filly English running the race of her life to finish second to her unbeaten stablemate Vancouver in the richest juvenile race in the world.

Both youngsters are prepared by Gai Waterhouse, who notched her sixth win in the race and while it would have been nice for us to win… there is no disgrace in being beaten by a champion as Vancouver is showing all the signs of becoming.

“We had an amazing run,” said English’s rider Blake Shinn.

“Got a dream run throughout, peeled off the back of Vancouver and at the 300 with the run I got, I thought we were going to win.”

English has won two of three starts earning $818,950 in prizemoney and is a half-sister to promising winner Puzzle.

She is the second foal from dual Group II winning Anabaa (USA) mare Court, who was also bred by Newhaven as was her mother Splish and comes from the family of outstanding racehorse and sire Grand Lodge (USA).

Her dam Court missed in 2013 so had no foal in 2014, but was covered by champion sire Redoute’s Choice last year.
