August 25, 2025Autumn Glow maintains unbeaten record
The rise and rise of Newhaven Park bred, raised and sold Autumn Glow continued at Randwick on Winx Stakes Day when the brilliant racemare made a successful return to action in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1100m) on a Heavy 10 track.
Widely regarded as the shooting star of Australian racing, Autumn Glow maintained her unbeaten record to go five-from-five, overcoming some ‘traffic problems’ early in the straight before scoring comfortably on the line.
After just five starts, this relatively untapped talent has already recorded wins at Group 2, Group 3 (x2) and Listed Race level, and now boasts $644,500 in earnings. Yet both trainer Chris Waller and regular rider James McDonald suggested in post-race interviews that there’s much, much more in store.
Speaking after the win, Waller stated in part: “We are finding our way with her. She is telling us what her distances are, what her comfort zones are… She is ticking every single box and we are trying to learn as [much as] we can.”
Similarly, McDonald remarked: “The thing is, we haven’t even scratched the surface in terms of putting her under a lot of pressure. Whatever she has done so far … she is doing it all on her own.”
Autumn Glow’s next assignment is likely to be the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 6, with trainer Chris Waller indicating that the mare’s major Sydney Spring target will be the Group 1 Epsom Handicap at Randwick on October 4.
Pre-nomination betting on the TAB Epsom Handicap has Autumn Glow as short as $2.30 favourite for the Randwick feature.
